Contemporary Ritual Theatre creates innovative and challenging theatre projects in Great Yarmouth. It was founded by Beau Hopkins in 2023.
Rooted in the myth, magic and folklore of Norfolk, the company is committed to developing a new form of theatre known as 'ritual theatre'.
A visceral and immersive form centred on the close physical connection of performers and audience, 'ritual theatre' integrates song, movement, dance, masking and improvisation alongside story and character.
Fusing the ancient and modern into a stark and mythic contemporary style, with only a circle on the ground for a stage, 'ritual theatre' is a mesmeric, fast-paced and rhythmical discipline that unites actors and audience in a single, unforgettable ritual.
Contemporary Ritual Theatre is the company in residence at The Drill House in Great Yarmouth, headquarters of Out There Arts, a National Centre for Outdoor Arts and Circus.
